Flávio Carvalho

Born in the largest favela in Rio de Janeiro, Rocinha, Flávio Carvalho, son of immigrant parents from Ceará, is a journalist graduated from PUC-Rio, photographer and community journalist from the favela he was born in.

Studying in public schools, the young man decided to take the risk of entering higher education. In 2008, he received a full scholarship to study Social Communication/Journalism at PUC-Rio. In the fourth period of graduation, he received an invitation to work on the newly created website, FavelaDaRocinha.com.

He collaborated with the website by writing articles and taking photographs. Volunteering for FDR is one of the activities that gives him pleasure.
 

This experience resulted in some jobs, such as an internship atDirected Sheet,  a year and a half in the radio and advisory centers at thePUC-Rio Communicate Project and acting as Social Media administrator for the Communications Office ofSecretary of State Social Assistance and Human Rights and programming assistant and journalist at C4 Rocinha Park Library. He currently works as a content producer and photographer in the initiative's Communications Office, present in 11 countries, World Mosquito Program, conducted in Brazil byFiocruz

He was an activist in the Cidade Unida movement and one of the founders of the photoclub collectiveFavelArt&Foto (group of photographers who visit favelas with the aim of showing the beauty of these places) and participates in the photo clubPhotographing FavelaDaRocinha.com which is part of one of the projects on the website in which it participates. He has ventured into photography since 2009.
